Performance and meat quality characteristics of male quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) fed diets supplemented with pomegranate seed oil

Aim of study: Pomegranate seed oil (PSO) is a nutritive, antioxidant-rich by-product, and it has been tested as feed ingredient for livestock. However, studies on quails are scarce. The current study investigated that the effect PSO performance meat instrumental quality quails.
 Area Türkiye.
 Material methods: A total 60 seventy-day-old male were equally subjected to 3 dietary treatments consisting 20 birds (5 replicates with 4 each). fed diet supplemented 0, 100, 200 mg kg-1 pomegranate (PSO). After 10 weeks, two per subgroup randomly selected slaughtered.
 Main results: Supplementation reduced (p<0.05) intake body weight gain linearly. there was no significant carcass traits. For color parameters, L* b* values breast thigh increased addition (p<0.05). Cooking losses highest in PSO. On other hand, breast, lowest this parameter observed groups had received 100 PSO.
 Research highlights: Including can improve some characteristics without affecting parameters. There possibility could be negatively affected by higher than this. Nevertheless, further research needed determine optimal dose quail its performance.
